This week, school starts. In order to prepare, I'm going to spend a few days making extra supplies. Here's what I'm making:
- Apple-Carrot Cupcakes with Honey-Butter Frosting
- Fairy Wands
- Mini Meatloaf Muffins
- Mini Taco Muffins
- Peanut Butter & Jelly Biscuits
- Pizza Shells
- English Muffins
Making things ahead of time and freezing them in individual portions helps speed up the daily lunch making process. Look for these recipes throughout the week.
Are you planning to pack lunch for your kids this year? When does school start in your area?
Yup, we pack! We don't start school until August 31st in our area, though.
ReplyDeleteMy boys go back to school on 7th September.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first year that I'm going to attempt packing every day. Last year I packed 2-3 times a week, but we're going to try full tilt this year! Looking forward to following your ideas, as our school doesn't start until August 13th, so I have a week to go before I have to start planning.
ReplyDeleteThis is our first year packing every day, too. School lunches in this area are unhealthy and overpriced -- $2.00 gets a kid a tiny scoop of canned veggies, an equally tiny scoop of canned fruit. Then they get a piece of white bread and a scoop of entree -- heavily salted and peppered. They chase it with a carton of off-tasting strawberry or chocolate milk, sometimes out of date. It's an embarrassment.
ReplyDeleteWhat are Fairy Wands? Have you posted that somewhere already and I missed it?
ReplyDeleteI haven't posted them yet, but they're basically bread sticks dipped in white chocolate with colored sugar on the tips.
ReplyDeleteSchool here in NC starts on August 25. My daughter ate at school last year and I was not impressed with the meals. I am hoping that the Bento Lunch Box will be appealing enough to her to let me pack lunches at least 2-3 days per week. I'll be watching your blog for some options.
ReplyDeleteMy girls are going into 4th and 2nd grades and only eat lunch 2 times a year (student appreciation day and field day at the end of school-McDonald's is served both times-yuck!). I am definitely looking forward to some new and exciting things to send with the girls.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! I have my own (http://lunchfitforakid.blogspot.com ) and I love packing for my daughter (and for the hubby and myself and occasionally my son)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading!
Oh - and school starts for us Sept 1.
Thank you! I've been packing my daughter's lunch and snacks for over two years but always need inspiration! Any thoughts on including vegetarian items as well? (we're a vege family)
ReplyDeleteoh am so glad i found your blog, i am in south carolina and the school lunchies are a joke horriable and expenisve, my kids come home last year starving because they would say momma the food was bad. so am going to try and pack there lunchies this year. got very picky eaters so this is going to be a HUGE challenge for me.

ReplyDeleteYes, look for LOTS of veg lunches! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about this!! Do you have a Facebook page yet?? I would love to suggest you to tons of my friends! I am responsible for What's for Dinner on Facebook! I am excited about making packed lunch fun for my boys!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteam going to be checking on your site for ideas :) thanks for having this site
ReplyDeletePlanned on packing this year. First year of school and all. I was able to view last years "health" menu and was not impressed or at least satisfied at all but then I had the rude awakening that our home school is half days so my daughter will be eating at home for the first year and then I will pack her lunch when she is in first grade.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and I'm looking forward to following along. I too am fed up with the school lunches. It's OH SO EASY to write that check each month but I can no longer justify it. I have two boys who will be helping me each night to pack a healthy lunch. Hoping it goes well!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the kudos. I'll get a FB up and running for this blog shortly. I do have one for my main blog (All Home COoking. All Year Long.) http://cookathome2010.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI love this! I pack everyday and can't wait to see what you have in store for us! My two are picky, with the oldest being a little less picky. They would eat PB&J everyday if I would let them. At least its homemade PB. :D
ReplyDeleteHoping they will try some of the cool stuff you are doing. Thanks!!!!!!
Thanks for adding me to your blogroll! I've added you to mine as well.
ReplyDeleteAnother Michelle =)
